Trivandrum or more recently renamed as Thiruvananthapuram, is the capital of of Kerala located near the extreme south of the mainland on the west coast of India. Referred to by Mahatma Gandhi as “Evergreen city of India”, the city is characterized by an undulating terrain with low coastal hills and busy commercial alleys.
The city is home to several educational and science and technology institutions apart from the central and state government offices. Considered as one of the 10 greenest cities in India, Thiruvananthapuram ranked the best city in Kerala in a Times of India survey. The place is well connected by air, rail and road.

Sree Chitra Art Gallery with rich collection of exquisite paintings, is another tourist attraction. The Shanghumughom beach with its neat and clean locale forms another attraction of the place. Kanyakumari, the southern most part of the peninsula, located in Tamil Nadu, is 87 km from Thiruvananthapuram. On the way to Kanyakumari is Padmanabhapuram, the old capital of Travancore famous for an ancient palace with antique murals.
